The 2010 film Raavan marked an important turning point in the history of Indian cinema. Directed by famous authors Mani Ratnam and Sharada Trilok, this film is a modern version of the classic story “Ramayana,” one of India’s most important literary classics. Raavan is not only an entertaining film, but also a work of art full of power and profound meaning.
The setting of Raavan takes place in a pristine mountain region, where the beauty of nature blends with the brutality of humans. The story revolves around the fight between two main characters: Beera (played by Abhishek Bachchan), a robber and leader of a group of criminals, and Dev (played by Vikram), a police officer who decides to hunt chased and captured Beera.
Although built on the foundation of a classic story, Raavan is not a simple copy of “Ramayana.” Instead, this film brings a new perspective and unique style to the characters and details of the story. On the contrary, Dev, although a symbol of fairness and integrity, cannot avoid the darkness within him.
One of the most notable aspects of movie is the way director Mani Ratnam handles human relationships. As opposed to forming a wall between husband and wife, Raavan raises questions about decency and sacrifice in love.
In addition, Raavan also impressed the audience with beautiful images and profound music. Scenes shot in pristine natural locations such as forests and beautiful mountain rivers created a perfect backdrop for the story’s development. A. R. Rahman’s music also played a key role in creating the film’s atmosphere and emotions, with musical scores ranging from mysterious to romantic.
