Plot of Mast Mein Rehne Ka

The film introduces us to the wonderful, quaint world filled with some wild characters, each with their unique trait and quirks.

A search for connection

Meet VS Kamath, penned by Jackie Shroff. Kamath is depicted as a 75 year old man who lost his wife many years back and now is leading a very rigid life. Stuck to a strict schedule everyday, the old widower has been living an isolated life in the city of Mumbai. Life goes on as usual for many years, until one day, Kamath’s life takes a big turn. His apartment is targeted by a burglar which then becomes the crux of the story. Unnerved by the police’s remarks on his solitude, he starts to strike up conversations with strangers as a way to make friends. Reminds us of the movie Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.

Enter, Neena Gupta with her role of Parkash Kaur Handa. Bringing in her infectious energy, Gupta portrays a Punjabi woman who becomes the catalyst for Kamath’s journey of rediscovery. When she, too, becomes the victim of a robbery, Kamath and Parkash strike up a friendship from their first encounter at the police station. This sets the stage for a very unlikely friendship born out if a shared quest for human connection.

Armed with a child like sense of mischief, both of them started to scour for empty houses across Mumbai which can be a potential for burglars. All was fun and games until the story took a deep turn, and the duo stumbled upon the same thief who had tried to rob them in the first place. This sets a chain of events in motion that intertwine their seemingly separate destinies.

Following a series of heartwarming moments and comical confrontations, Kamath and Handa navigate the unpredictable twist of fate and rediscovering their strength in the process. The film is a great reflection on the vulnerabilities of urban life and celebrates the power of human connection. A deep connection that becomes a way of life and, even in its later chapters, can lead to moments of fun and adventure. All one needs to do is embrace the unexpected with open arms.
